Simon pens tales both candid and tall and is known for vivid imagery and fluid storylines. He loves the outdoors and fills his songs with tones of appreciation for the natural world, in hopes to inspire kids to get outside and enjoy nature’s enchantment.
Simon’s identity as a children’s artist was inspired by his relationship with his niece, Marley, whom his first single ‘Marley Sitting on a Pumpkin Seed’ was written about. As winner of the 2019 NZ Music Award for Best Children’s Song, it opened up a new realm of colorful, expressive writing, leading to his next single ‘Floating Down the River’ and subsequent illustrated book.
His song writing has shifted and adapted to the varying phases of his life, embracing his work as a session guitarist in Nashville, his writing with NZ Music Award-winning band ‘Tattletale Saints’, and his background as a jazz singer in Malaysia and London, and covers and rock musician in New Zealand.
A New Zealander by birth, Simon is a keen reader, long distance runner, yogi, and lover of a good ol’ ball kick and dip in the lake. He has traveled the world round, living and performing everywhere from the UK to Malaysia, Spain, Japan, now residing in Nashville, TN with his girlfriend and two cats, Wizard and Marsha.
